About Us

My photo
Wauchope, NSW, Australia
Welcome to Elizabeth and John’s blog, where you can join us on our latest adventure in 2011. We first blogged in 2007, while we were living in Cambridge, UK (you can find it under the title 'Living with the Angels'). John and Elizabeth are married, and are both ministers in the Uniting Church in Australia. Here you will find photos and musings about how successfully we are transplanting ourselves to the verdant pastures of Wauchope, and what we hope to do. 2011 so far has been a year of great change for us, having moved from Thornleigh in Sydney to working and living in the Hastings valley. Of course, as well as working, we will be visiting a number of places of interest in the area. Here, in the future, we hope to post photos and commentary on our time in Wauchope as well as other places we will visit. We hope you enjoy exploring the blog! And ... if you are wondering why this blog is called 'the rural reverends', you haven't been paying attention.

More Cornwall Scenery

During our travels through the moors, there were some some very pretty brooks we explored, and though Elizabeth was keen to see an otter or a dipper, they were lying low this day and out of sight.

The afternoon was spent at Tintagel, home to a spectacular ruined castle on the cliffs, and reputed to be the home of the legendary King Arthur. There were a number of old buildings in the main street of Tintagel, including a 14th century shop still in use (selling very tacky gifts!).

As the castle was actually built in the 1300s, the legend that it was home to King Arthur is very unlikely, but this didn’t dim the enthusiasm of the many shops selling Arthurian artifacts. Elizabeth couldn’t manage the long cliff walk and the steep steeps (100s of them!) up and down the cliffs, we viewed the castle from the cliff opposite.

We also went through a National Trust property, an old post office built circa 1400s, which was very interesting. The camera operator got carried away with the tour and forgot to take a photo, but you can see a photo and read more about it at:

Postscript: after an extensive marital discussion, we have decided to edit this post and reveal that the camera operator was male.
