It was great to see old friends from our year spent living there in 1997; to revisit the Theology Department as well as the magnificent Cathedral; and to do some touring to local northern sites.
There will be more to come (lots, lots more to come) about Durham and the North in future posts to this blog.
When we left, Cambridge was bustling and warm...on return, it is noticeably cooler and there are less people on the streets. Maybe this is a good sign that students are actually studying? Certainly there are fewer tourists on the streets. (Compare today's photo on the left with the photo on the right from two months ago.)
The trees opposite our flat are showing the autumn colours. (Again, a comparison photo is included.)
The vine in the neighbouring street, such an impressive sight a month ago, is now looking decidedly bare.
And the parks have a colder feel and look. We took this one on our walk today to the New Testament Seminar, which is held over the other side of the town.
Yesterday was Guy Fawkes Day. Fireworks and bonfires are the order of the night. We went to the Cambridge community bonfire and fireworks show, just a block away on Midsummer Common. There were hundreds and hundreds of people there! Here are some shots for you to enjoy.
